Practical Steps for Success #3 : Want to Act Like a Pro? Jump in!
Have you known someone that ‘all of a sudden’ jumps into a new hobby/sport and goes out to spend wildly on ‘the outfit’, the tools and all the bells?
Have you ever seen something so crazy? Well, the ‘jumping in’ attitude shows THEY ARE COMMITTED! It can be crazy, expensive, and it can be a surprise to watch. In reality, something has changed: they are trying to learn a new activity, and better themselves. It is imperative to ‘act the part’ (ie: confidence) while learning new skills.
You can bring this attitude of ‘new confidence’ into your work day. Jump in with both feet. Are you ‘just hanging out’ until something else lands into your lap? Are you working two jobs at once, and still getting nowhere? When you decide that your part-time efforts are sub-standard, you may be ready to expand and MOVE ON! Take that passion, step up to the plate and start acting like a professional:
- Get a new look: A new haircut and fresh clothes can initiate change.
- Get committed: Schedule time to learn more, practice more and grow.
- Develop new habits: Show up on-time, return calls, and work within deadlines.
- Let others know: Your goals, reputation and progress are all on the line.
If you are confident with your actions, results will follow. The people that know you, and see your attitude and determination, will either support you or walk away. At least you’ll know where you stand.
When you are ready to commit, just jump in. Make the commitment. Make the change. Be confident, and act like the professional you want to be.
