A Healthy Boost is Found in the Heart of Your Home!

Let’s face it; it is cold and flu season!

Where to turn and what to do, to strengthen our bodies against germs and virus’?

In feng shui, the Health Area is located in the center of your room, or your home. Because a person’s health is a central nucleus to their entire life, this does make sense. In some cases, access to this Health area can be blocked due to storage areas, furnaces and pipes and that is where we need to be creative! As I’ve explained before, the BTB Bagua is flexible to our modern, progressive society and often, the lines don’t line up (literally). When in doubt, the Health Area defaults to the kitchen.

There are many ways to boost this area. Start by omitting electronics and microwaves from the counters or desks, and designate an area to hold positive healthy things such as a fruit bowl, homemade granola, fresh flowers, cook books, fitness magazines and more.

Many times, I suggest representation from each of the Five Elements to help balance this area. Choosing one representation from each element can reinforce balance in that particular life area. Choose a colour, shape or representation of each element:

  • Wood= life in general: green things, tall-column type items, plants, wood carvings or frames
  • Fire= passion: red things, triangular or sharp objects, candles, bright lights and fire.
  • Earth= grounding: earth-tone colours, squares or rectangles (equality) and soil, clay or stones.
  • Metal= precision: white or grey items, circular things, mirrors, glass and actual metals.
  • Water= calmness: dark blue or black, wavy lines, pictures of calm water or actual water in fountains, fish tanks, bird bath, etc.

More challenge is required working around house designs that place pipes, elevators and staircases up this central part of a building. This generally makes sense for construction, having equal access to the logistics of what the house needs, but this isn’t necessarily the best idea. Too much activity in this central part of the house can bring overactive-chi. Too much chi-activity can weaken our resistance. Therefore, if the chi-energy flow in the house doesn’t allow us a restful and calm living environment, our bodies can feel weak, agitated and susceptible to breakdown.

Other cures can be brought into this area by using lead crystals to distribute light energy through the area. Colour cures can be utilized through tangible items such as coffee cups, notebooks and pens, dishes, pictures on the walls and specific paint colours. I’ve even seen staircases with actual paint chips of the five element colours leading progressively up the inside of the stairs! Another time, a lady invested in five coloured crystals to raise the chi of the undersized staircase in her house. Other people set up a display of an assortment of items to represent ‘good health’ at the bottom of the stairwell.

Creativity is encouraged using the things you love, the things you have around you and the resources at hand.

Take some time this afternoon to check out your Health Area to see if it needs a feng shui boost to get you through the season.

All the best, Kathryn
