Q: Hi Kathryn. I purchased a suit at the Thrift Store and my girlfriend says it is creepy.
Could this have a hex on it or something? How can a suit be creepy?
A: When purchasing anything previously-owned you inherit predecessor-chi. Chi-energy comes in many forms. When the previous owner is not around for evaluation, you gamble with that energy.
We all make purchases ‘in good faith’, and we expect the seller to meet that same standard. Whether we are purchasing a car, house, furniture, a painting, dishes or clothing, if the owner is not there to answer your questions, you are taking a risk.
Ideally, you want things with good vibes; Items that have been gently used, taken care of and loved. That energy will be brought forward. In contrast, if the item was in a home with unhappy occupants, with eventual loss of property or finances, that energy will follow through also.
Think about it. If second-hand clothing has a ‘vibe’ to it, generally, a run through the washer and dryer can usually take care of any issues. When purchasing a desk or furniture, you cannot put them in a washing machine ‘to clear’ any energetic vibes.
These items need a hand cleaning; using things like baking soda or vinegar. Other items will need sage for clearing, singing bells or other similar tools. You’ll need a professional to clear any actual curses in your home.
Your girlfriend may be sensitive enough to pickup this energy. Perhaps the previous owner wore this item as a ‘funeral suit’ or other sad events. I suggest you get this dry cleaned and see if the energy changes. Failing that, there are other ‘cures’ you can do to alter the predecessor chi-energy involving rice and ritual. Unless you really love the suit, you may choose to donate it back to the Thrift Store and go shopping for something else.
There is a saying in feng shui to boost your luck: ‘If you want to buy a desk, buy one from a successful individual.’
