FORD Inside Perspective

WHAT ARE YOU REALLY SELLING?

Is it a dream, a feeling or a life style?

When you have developed a product or service that you are proud of, the next step is to find buyers for the product. Expand on the basics and get creative; get under the hood and inside their heads.

When marketing tangible items, the consumer can actually visualize the product.

  • If it is a car, you can entice them to sit in the driver’s seat, feel the new leather and go for a test drive.
  • If you are selling deodorant, flowers or a meal, the consumer can smell the temptations and take action if desired.
  • If you are selling a tangible with non-tangible results such as health care items, you need to describe a feeling or result that they can connect with.

Non-tangibles, such as insurance, concepts or course studies; you’ll need to paint the picture for the potential client. Use visuals to guide them into a picture, or lifestyle, and then use key words to describe the benefits.

When marketing items on line, there is an image and perhaps an audio feed describing the product. Where you really have to be creative: Selling the benefits of purchasing the product. Why is yours different from other like-products?

There are loads of manipulative tactics out there baiting people to pay attention. Many are toting promises of ‘feel better’, ‘look better’, and even ‘successful people need…’ Stop, and think for a moment:

What do people really want?

What are you really selling?

When you find the answers to these questions, you may find the secret for success, and market your product differently.

In the meantime, live with your product or service; eat, breathe, think and dream inside your product.

Paint the picture, or lifestyle, that you believe works with your product/vision/result. Money is not always the issue.

When you can find a way to get others to ‘buy into it’ with their heart and mind, you’ve got yourself a new customer.
