Practical Steps to Success #8: Recognize the Dance of Destruction

I met with a client a few months ago; we discussed his business, his trials and setbacks. His long term goals were very vague. He was more interested in immediate ‘cash flow’ right now than planning and saving for the future. After talking for about two hours, he decided to ‘give it one more year’.

So, what does that really mean? It means; he is not going to change a thing.

Do you find yourself, in a spiral; going around in circles, having to do things over and over? Frustrated? You know something isn’t working, yet you are still going through the motions, and still not getting anywhere? The dance of destruction is very real.

When you are ready to make a change, you need to change something! You need to change the energy around you, spark the brain waves, learn a new skill, take a different way home, or try something different for lunch. Just start to do something different!

I teach classes and workshops about ‘Finding the Wealth’, with a feng shui perspective. It is all about cultivating the right energy. Feng shui can be very practical:

  1. Change what doesn’t work. Your past history tells the story about your relationship with money. Do you burn through money quickly, then, grumble until the next pay check? What can you do to change this?
  2. Make a plan; and make it feasible. If you are planning to make a million dollars this year, chances are, if you don’t have the groundwork ready it is not going to happen. Set reasonable goals. You will see progress, learn from mistakes, and work towards that goal over time.
  3. Make a plan B; the back-up plan. The goal can be clear, but you will have to plough through a few obstacles along the way. You can redirect at any time. By working towards something specific you can get the pulse of the industry, track movement and keep working towards the goal. This back up plan should also include a savings to help weather the storms ahead.

Whether you have been in business for years or just starting out; having a clear plan that is flexible to the economic needs will fare better than a get rich scheme.

Take a few moments to reflect on the revolving tasks in your workplace. What is working and what isn’t working? Is it time to get pro-active and learn the dances of success?
